I went to see Bat For Lashes at Koko the other night, now beyond an appreciative glance in recognition of Natasha Khan’s saucepottery, Bat For Lashes music hadn’t been of any sort of interest so I didn’t really know what to expect. Hey would you turn down some free tickets to a soldout gig and the chance to see if the hype was justified? Exactly
Have to say I left distinctly unimpressed by the airy fairy mysticism of Bat For Lashes music which sounded like some rehash of a Felt Mountain era Goldfrapp. The fact it was like lover’s night in Koko didn’t do much to improve the atmosphere, amount of couples swaying and sighing arm in arm along to the music whilst wearing silly masks was boke inducing.
Anyway if Bat For Lashes has passed me by then anything to do with pop minx Kylie Minogue is unlikely to register on the Slutty Fringe radar (unless she’s a reader, if so feel free to drop me an email with your thoughts on the blog Kylie) but I always welcome a surprise. And the surprise came in the form of a Studio remix of la Minogue’s new single 2 Hearts which found it’s way to my inbox.
Not really familiar with the original, I’m guessing the Balaeric lovers from Sweden have stripped the song of it’s obvious poppy disco leanings and laced her vocals over a lovely flamenco inflected smack house beat which sounds like a rubntug edit of the Gypsy Kings.
2 Hearts is out on 5th November and you can probably buy it from your corner shop. You should also invest in the Studio album West Coast because it’s splendid and you need it in your ears.
